Valentin Uryupin is an exceptional musician in two respects: before he stepped on the conductor's podium, he won more than 20 international competitions as a clarinetist and performed as a soloist worldwide with such orchestras as Munich Chamber Orchestra, Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Beijing Philharmonic and many others, under the baton of Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Teodor Currentzis, Maxim Emelyanachev, Jon Storgards and Howard Griffits.
In view of his numerous conducting engagements, his performances as a soloist are increasingly rare. However, Valentin Uryupin can occasionally be seen in play-direct concerts. Also he is a passionate chamber musician.
Valentin was born in 1985 in Lozovaya, Ukraine. He graduated from Moscow conservatory as a clarinet player and a conductor. His teachers were Gennady Rozhdestvensky, whom Valentin assisted during last ever concert in Moscow, Vladimir Neymer and Evgeny Petrov.
Among his mentors Valentin names also Vladimir Jurowski, Teodor Currentzis and Valery Gergiev, whom he assisted, and Kurt Masur, whose last-ever masterclass was attended by Valentin in 2015.
